Event FAQ

What is Shamrock-N-Roll?
It’s a big party for all us adults. 6:30PM – midnight. Tickets include DINNER, beer & wine and dancing. Look forward to a massive silent/live auction! Hundreds of truly great things are gathered and donated by parents and parishioners. There will be a 50-50 raffle ensuring one lucky attendee will go home with a big check at the end of the night.

What kind of auction items?
If you have not made it to an auction and have not seen the program from the Auction, you can visit the online preview (available two weeks before auction). In the previous year’s items like tickets to Live events, sporting events, Maryland Basketball Experience, Hotel room in New York, & amazing jewelry were all live auction items. Additionally there are always many great deals on camps for your kids, special playdates with beloved teachers, days of beauty, stuff from all kinds of local businesses, and big “Sign-Up Parties” hosted by HR parents that are great fun to go to in the summer, fall and following spring. There is also a gift provided from each grade that is auctioned off.

What are “Sign-Up Parties”?
These auction items are different from silent or live items as there are a limited number of spots available a fixed price. There is no bidding; the “winners” are first come first serve. Shop the program and arrive early to get you name on those lists! A Sign-up party is hosted after the auction by groups of HR families with the purpose of the ticket sales raising money for the school.

How does this auction thing work?
A program will be sent home, prior to the event, which will preview the available items and experiences. All the bidding will occur online, using your phone. You’ll receive instructions and a bid # prior to the event as well as registration information.

Why we Eat, Drink, Bid & Be Irish?
Shamrock-N-Roll is the largest parish event, hosted biennially, to raise funds to support a high standard of Catholic education, maintain our facilities and grounds, and allow us to update our students’ academic and athletic options.  Some of this year’s funds will be used to update & improve the technology resources at the school including bandwidth & wireless, fund new technology equipment and provide education for both students and teachers on current and new electronic products.

What gives with the name – Shamrock-N-Roll?
It’s historically been a St. Patrick’s Day-themed event, until that theme got a bit tired! But the name is tradition.

What to Look Forward to?
This year the theme is “Eat, Drink, Bid & Be Irish”.  The event is on St. Patrick’s Day – we will be celebrating as such! It’s a grown-up night and lots of fun. There are always specialty cocktails.

What do I wear?
Anything green goes, after all we are all Irish on St. Paddy’s day!

What does this mean to me?
From now until March 17th, there will be a LOT of buzz surrounding the auction. Look for emails & communication from the committee on how you can get involved.

What does it mean for the kids?
Kids are involved at all different levels. They will help with class auction items.  At  school, there will be contests for raffle tickets and a kids auction two weeks before the big night.

OK. Sounds like we’ll go then. How can I help? I don’t know if I want to help yet, but at least tell me my options.

  1. You can donate something – your time if you’re a professional – a trainer, a hairdresser, a magician; a stay at your vacation home, your art if you’re an artist. You can find the form on the website www.hrcardinals.com
  2. We always need help.  There are more than 14 different Committees. If you would like to help on any of these please let us know! Contact Katie May or Tina Marmor.
  3. You can just come and have fun and encourage a group to go – this is probably the best help of all!
